2. Blue Note
’Fit Check is Highsnobiety’s latest series, taking a deep-dive look at celebrities and their jawnz. Every other day, we highlight a notable figure from our world and run the rule over whether their outfit is a hit or miss. Do you agree or disagree with our appraisal? Let us know below.
Who: Tyler, the Creator
The outfit he’s wearing: Bucket hat (no ID), Louis Vuitton Hawaiian shirt, shorts (no ID), Suicoke DEPA-V2 sandals.
Location: Lake Como, Italy
Why it works: Over the last year or two, Tyler has demonstrated a prowess for mixing affordable streetwear with high fashion. Here, the color combination works beautifully, with the red-and-white Hawaiian shirt taking center stage, expertly juxtaposed against neutral black bottoms and footwear. The rapper understands that there’s no need to detract from such a loud, branded piece by wearing other names or jewelry.
Editor’s notes: Tyler has been on the strappy sandals wave for more than a minute, and has been spotted before now rocking the Neoprene Suicoke DEPA-V2 with socks. Here, pictured in warmer climes, he mercifully goes barefoot. At $199, the sandals aren’t cheap, but that’s still a drop in the ocean compared with the $920 silk Louis Vuitton shirt (if you’re looking to cop, it’s sadly sold out, but you can peep affordable alternatives here).
For something a little less expensive on the footwear front, Birkenstock and ’90s hiking favorite Teva have been on the comeback trail (pun not intended) in recent times, boasting heavyweight collaborations with Rick Owens and Opening Ceremony, respectively.
As an aside, the photos above were snapped in Northern Italy (bonus points for sharp-eyed Tyler fans who got the nod to Call Me By Your Name in the caption), not far from where Frank Ocean was seen hanging out a few days ago. Might they be cooking up something together? (And no, we don’t mean pasta.)
